The UK Science Media Centre and Airfield Estate in Dublin are collaborating on a new project. As part of the development of a global network of SMCs, we are running a one-year pilot to see if an SMC will work in Ireland. We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic self-starter who can deliver this exciting new project.
The UK Science Media Centre (SMC) is an independent press office for science aimed at enhancing the public understanding of science by improving the quality of news reporting on scientific topics. We work to ensure that journalists can access the best science more easily, support more scientists to engage with the media, and help press officers and research organisations present their science in an accurate, evidence-based manner.
THE ROLE:
- Job Title: Senior Press Manager
- Responsible for: Delivering the daily activities of the Pilot Ireland SMC
- Location: Can be based at Airfield Estate in Dublin, or hybrid/remote arrangements from anywhere in Ireland or Northern Ireland can be discussed.
- Salary: circa €65,000
- Travel: Travel around Ireland and Northern Ireland will be required. We also anticipate visits to the UK SMC in London.
- Employment will be a fixed term contract of 12 months in the first instance.
- Freelancers or contractors can be considered.
- Secondments can be considered.
REQUIREMENTS:
The candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience working either in science communications, journalism or science and be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the science and media landscape in Ireland.
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a good grasp of science and the courage to take on an exciting new start-up. They will work closely with colleagues in other SMCs around the world and be supported by a dedicated Advisory Group.
