The Hunt and Johnson labs at the Duke University are recruiting PhD students in the general field of Marine Microbial Ecology for Fall 2025. We are searching for highly motivated PhD students with prior research experience in microbiology, oceanography or environmental engineering to engage in research at our small coastal campus.  The Hunt lab is specifically recruiting students to further our development of a multi-domain synthetic microbiome community as well as looking at disturbance events, including storms, in our long-term time series.  The Johnson lab has projects in microbial oceanography focused on cyanobacteria growth and mortality in changing environments and in applied phycology using eukaryotic microalgae for carbon capture and the sustainable production of bio-commodities. While our labs work together closely, please contact the PI(s) you are interested in working with directly.
