Job Description

Fresh Direct are currently recruiting for a full time, permanent, QA Technologist to join the team based on site at our Wigan depot.

As a QA Technologist you will support the Technical Manager (Fresh Manufacturing) and Operations Manager, to ensure Carver & Co. comply with all current legislation and customer requirements by overseeing site quality checks, maintaining product specifications, and ensuring all products prepared within the business meet these specifications.

The hours for this role are Monday–Friday 3pm–11pm with the occasional flexibility to work Sunday's.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Provide on–site technical and Quality cover.
  • Prepare and participate in the smooth running of all 3rd party audits (including FSA /BRC), customer audits and visitors attending site.
  • In accordance with site schedules, complete daily checks including daily Start–ups, Calibrations, environmental temperature, titration, scales, temperature probes, GMP, fabrication, hygiene, and internal audits, discussing and closing out actions with relevant departments in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate cleaning schedules with the operations hygiene team.
  • Assist in the investigation of consumer complaints, determining root cause and corrective action necessary to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Complete daily/weekly/monthly ATP &/or swabbing; water sampling; all environmental and product Start of life (SOL) &/or End of Life (EOL) laboratory sampling as per the schedule. Results to be reviewed, filed and reported to Technical Manager (Fresh Manufacturing) and the site Operations Manager.
  • Investigate microbial Out Of Specification (OOS) results, determining the root cause and corrective action necessary to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assist with Operations on booking in goods, stock control on the current SAP system.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of site quality improvement projects, where necessary providing support to train operation teams and monitor project effectiveness.
  • Ensure raw material specifications are available for all components and packaging used or being trialled on site and supplier files are kept up to date with the relevant accreditation certificates and questionnaires.
  • Support Technical Manager (Fresh Manufacturing) with specification and artwork progression on the Assure system and as necessary.
  • Build production team capability to improve communication and understanding of technical standards.

You:

We are looking for someone with previous technical experience of working in a chilled food manufacturing environment preferably in Meat processing. To be successful in this role you will have knowledge of all relevant food safety legislation, HACCP and the current BRC standard. It is key to have excellent communication skills as you will be customer focused and be well organised and be IT literate with strong computer skills. You will show tenacity and a desire to follow things through to completion, with strong planning and organisational skills, and a high attention to detail.
