About you
You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team (including microbiologists, engineers, environmental scientists, and AI data analysts) implementing fluorescence-based sensing technology for the monitoring and detection of organic pollution from sewage in water catchments. You will have access to a range of scientific laboratory facilities that support the development of cutting-edge technology.
You will work closely with collaborators from The Rivers Trust and Chelsea Technologies and conduct extensive field-testing of the technology at existing water catchments. You will be expected to disseminate the technology and results by preparing journal papers and presenting at relevant national and international conferences.
You should have a PhD in Environmental, Chemical or Biological sciences (or a related engineering discipline). A practical background is essential and you should have good laboratory and field skills, with relevant experience of water quality sampling & analysis, and the ability to critically assess data and results. Some experience of aquatic ecology is desirable.
You should be able to work and communicate efficiently with other researchers, including supervisors, students, technicians, and postdoctoral researchers who may have very different backgrounds to your own.
You will have a good track record in conducting independent and original research, including publishing in research journals.
